Pensions can be a tangle of rules and mechanisms. And they usually need an experienced, objective eye to see how your retirement savings best fit your current finances and future plans. In a nutshell, this is the value of a financial adviser.

In many cases we can offer clients full advice with no obligation. This means we will analyse your pension, your circumstances and your objectives, sending you our recommendation report with no commitment on your part to pay us a penny. In your report we would let you know what we think you should do with your pension and exactly how much it would cost to follow our advice.

You would then have a choice to either instruct us to act on our recommendation, in which case you can generally choose for the fee to come out of your pension so there would be no extra money to find or you can choose to walk away, better informed and with nothing to pay.

According to rules set out by the Financial Conduct Authority, some people with defined benefit schemes do not qualify for full advice with no obligation. We would know if this applied to you after our initial investigation and telephone appointment (which would still be free). At which point we would let you know how much it would cost to continue and receive our full advice.

You would then have the choice to either proceed or stop your pension check without having to pay a penny.

The cost for following the advice in our recommendation report can vary from 1% for certain discounted annuities, to 7% for a complex case. And if you qualify for full advice with no obligation, which many people do, you can generally choose for this fee to come out of your pension so there would be no extra money for you to find. Like many services, our fee depends on a lot of different factors and is therefore tailored to each client. That’s why we need to analyse a client’s pension, circumstances and objectives before we can state exactly what our service will cost.
